Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 2,070 head Aug. 11, compared to 1,323 head last week and 1,620 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher. Feeder cattle were steady to $2 higher. Weigh-ups were mostly average to a few full. Demand was good on all classes with good attendance of buyers. Interest on light weight cattle increased as rainfall across the area soaked pastures. Receipts included 54% steers, 32% heifers, 12% bulls, with 40% over 600 pounds. Demand was very good on high yielding cows with slaughter cows selling $2 to $3 higher and bulls $2 higher. A total of 216 cows and bulls sold with 78% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1250 to 2065 lbs., 72.00 to 75.50; high dressing, 76.00 to 77.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 71.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average, 850.00 to 910.00
