Texas AgriLife Extension adds two agents in Moore CountyTexas Texas AgriLife Extension Service recently hired two new agents for the Moore County office, said Dr. Galen Chandler, AgriLife Extension district administrator. Sue Owens has been hired to fill the family and consumer science agent position, while Brandy Daugherty will fill the 4-H and youth development position. The two join Marcel Fischbacher, agriculture and natural science agent, and Roxanne Bowling, integrated pest management agent. Owens, a native of Brownfield, has lived in Dumas for the past 30 years, working most recently in Iraq for the U.S. Department of Defense. She is a former teacher and health care administrator. She earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from Texas Tech University, an elementary education degree from West Texas A&M University and a master's degree from Wayland Baptist University. "I am ready to return to my first love--home economics and education--the things I majored in college and grew up doing," Owens said. "I just want to contribute my talents back to the people of Moore County." Daugherty grew up in Cleburne, where she was an active 4-H member, participating in fashion, food and nutrition, share-the-fun and the horse program. She said she was judging horses before she began riding them. "I think part of me has always wanted to be a career 4-Hers," she said. "This way I can give back to the program I loved and stay involved in." Daugherty recently received her bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University, where she majored in animal science. She will be working on her master's degree in the coming years, she said. Chandler said the people of Moore County are fortunate to have the various career experiences of Owens and her past commitment to numerous volunteer groups and organizations as she leads the family and consumer sciences area. "And Brandy will complete the Extension office staff in the 4-H and youth development areas as she serves as the 4-H coordinator where she brings great experiences as a successful 4-H member in Johnson County," he said. 8/18/08 Date: 8/12/08 Advertisement
