Sydney Geppert earns Junior Bronze and Silver awardsSouth Dakota Sydney Geppert, Mitchell, S.D., has earned the National Junior Angus Association's Bronze and Silver awards, according to James Fisher, director of junior activities for the American Angus Association in Saint Joseph, Mo. Geppert, the 20-year-old daughter of Kevin and Helen Geppert, is an active member of the NJAA and South Dakota Junior Angus Association. She has served as vice president, secretary, treasurer and director for her state's junior board. She was also a queen, a voting delegate and a South Dakota Angus Auxiliary scholarship recipient. At the National Junior Angus Show, she has participated in the mentoring program. A member of the NJAA since 1997, Geppert has enrolled her cattle in the Angus Herd Improvement Records program. She is a nursing student at South Dakota State University. The Bronze and Silver awards are the first two levels of the NJAA Recognition Program that began in 1972. Junior Angus breeders must apply for the awards and then meet point requirements in many areas of participation before receiving the honors. Applicants are evaluated in areas of junior Angus association activities and leadership, participation in showmanship, contests and shows, using performance testing to improve their herd and their progress in producing and merchandising Angus cattle. The NJAA promotes the involvement of young people in raising Angus cattle, while also providing leadership and self-development opportunities for nearly 11,000 members nationwide. 7/28/08 Date: 8/14/08
