Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1115 head Aug. 12, compared to 1,203 head last week and 942 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly $3 to $4 lower. Slaughter ewes were too few for an accurate comparison however, a steady undertone was noted. Feeder lambs sold mostly $1 to $4 lower. Receipts included about 68% slaughter lambs, 24% feeder lambs, 1% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 96 head, 127 lbs., 104.50; 134 to 144 lbs., 103.50 to 104.50 (104.23). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 135 to 146 lbs., 100.00 to 105.75 (103.31); 150 to 152 lbs., 103.00 to 105.00 (104.02). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 123 to 128 lbs., 96.00 to 100.50 (99.01); 21 head, 126 lbs., 94.50 full. Wooled, Good and Choice 1 to 3, 18 head, 106 lbs., 97.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good, 2 to 3, fleshy, 8 head, 160 to 185 lbs., 25.00 to 31.00 (28.38). Cull 1, thin, 114 to 124 lbs., 8.00 to 13.00 (9.93).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 38 lbs., 111.00; 35 head, 58 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00 (105.80); 36 head, 64 lbs., 106.00; 75 to 78 lbs., 97.00 to 103.00 (98.70); 18 head, 85 lbs., 102.00; 36 head, 113 lbs., 96.00; 17 head, 112 lbs., 92.25 fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 71 lbs., 96.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 22 head, 70 lbs., 89.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 9 head, 126 lbs., 42.00.
