Salazar lauds decision to allow emergency haying, grazingColorado Recently, U.S. Senator Ken Salazar lauded Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer's announcement that acreage enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program will be made available for emergency haying and grazing in Elbert and Douglas counties in Central Colorado. Opening these CRP lands will provide much-needed relief for farmers and ranchers in the area whose operations have suffered due to severe drought. "Today's announcement from USDA comes not a moment too soon for our farmers and ranchers in Elbert and Douglas counties," said Senator Salazar. "Providing immediate access to CRP acreage will help them survive this drought, albeit under incredibly difficult circumstances." To be approved, CRP participants must write their county Farm Service Agency office, obtain a modified conservation plan, and receive county office approval before beginning to hay and graze. 8/18/08 Date: 8/13/08 Advertisement
