ICA to hold SW regional meeting, BQA and handling presentation Aug. 25

Iowa

Creston Livestock Auction will host the Iowa Cattlemen's Association's 2nd annual Southwest Iowa regional meeting Aug. 25, with registration at 10 a.m., and kick-off at 10:30 a.m.

"We are inviting all cattle producers and interested persons to attend," said ICA Regional Vice President Doug Wedemeyer. "This should be a very informative program covering a variety of issues important to our industry. The Creston Livestock Auction makes for an ideal location for this program," continued Wedemeyer.

The day will begin with a Beef Quality Assurance training by Brian Waddingham, Iowa Beef Industry Council Director of Industry Relations. Following the BQA training, a cattle handling presentation will be given by Creston Livestock Auction's, Tom Frey.

A complimentary lunch will be provided and the afternoon portion of the program will feature ICA President Kevin Carstensen and Executive Vice President Bruce Berven. Carstensen and Berven will jointly present a "State of ICA" address. Updates will be given on a potential rule to limit application of manure on frozen ground and other DNR rule changes relating to manure stockpiling, etc. Members will be briefed on Country of Origin Labeling, as well as have the opportunity to ask questions.

ICA policy development process begins at regional meetings. Members will be able to discuss issues which are concerning to them. ICA policy will be determined at ICA Annual Convention in January. A Regional Nominating Committee will be elected, as well as an election for a Southwest Regional ICA Vice-President.

All cattle producers and agri-business entities interested in attending are asked to RSVP for the luncheon and register their attendance to the ICA office by Aug. 20, at 515-296-2266.
