Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 848 head Aug. 11, compared to 871 head last week and 783 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $5 higher. Feeder steers were $2 to $4 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 400 feeder calves, 281 feeder yearlings, 33 replacement cows, 116 slaughter cows, 16 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 57.00 to 61.50; high dressing, 62.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 52.00 to 56.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 68.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 73.00 to 77.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 65.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 318 to 335 lbs., 124.00 to 126.00 (124.50); 405 to 445 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00 (121.94); 455 to 495 lbs., 119.00 to 127.00 (120.72); 502 to 549 lbs., 108.00 to 116.00 (112.47); 550 to 595 lbs., 106.00 to 115.50 (110.38); 600 to 645 lbs., 104.00 to 111.50 (107.58); 650 to 678 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50 (109.92); 753 to 785 lbs., 104.50 to 107.00 (105.36). Medium and large frame 2, 305 to 345 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00 (109.89); 350 to 395 lbs., 104.00 to 115.00 (108.82); 400 to 448 lbs., 100.00 to 115.00 (108.90); 450 to 490 lbs., 100.00 to 117.00 (109.15); 500 to 525 lbs., 90.00 to 102.00 (95.85); 580 to 595 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00 (100.99).
