Dr. Donald Lee receives NAYI's highest awardNebraska The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute Award of Merit was recently awarded to Dr. Donald Lee, a professor of agronomy at the University of Nebraska. The award was presented during NAYI on the University of Nebraska -Lincoln campus. According to Dr. Lee's students he is a role model to, and has helped prepare thousands of students, mostly Nebraska youth from rural areas, to serve as professional agriculturalists in a wide range of careers. Dr. Lee works to develop more effective plant science lessons which he shares through the Plant and Soil Science e-library. This allows teachers and students from around Nebraska and the world to benefit. He has also developed a course in biotechnology that tells the stories of scientists in the college who use biotechnology to make discoveries and solve problems in our food system. "In addition to classroom performance, Dr. Lee is an outstanding student advisor, an active supporter of student co-curricular activities, a leader in University of Nebraska faculty teaching improvement and governance, and an active participant in the American Society of Agronomy and Crop Sciences Society of American educational efforts," said those who nominated Dr. Lee. NAYI is an annual conference, sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, that encourages high school juniors and seniors to learn more about current agricultural issues, develop leadership skills, and cultivate their interest in making agriculture a part of their future. Award of Merit nominations are received from agriculture education advisers, University of Nebraska professors, past Award of Merit recipients, and other agricultural leaders. The Nebraska Agricultural Youth Council then reviews the nominees' contributions and achievements and selects the Award of Merit recipient. 8/18/08 Date: 8/12/08 Advertisement
