Arkansas livestock sales summary

The weekly summary of livestock sales for the week ending Aug. 7, showed estimated receipts of 6,700 head, compared to 8,116 head last week and 9,255 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls sold nearly steady. Feeders sold somewhat unevenly, mostly firm to $3 higher. The supply included 3,705 stockers and feeder calves, 1,801 feeder yearlings, 335 replacement cows, 750 slaughter cows and 100 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 43% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 65.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 51.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 66.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 51.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 47.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 47.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 36.00 to 44.00; low dressing, 28.00 to 36.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 65.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 74.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 57.00 to 65.00.
