Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,010 head Aug. 12, compared to 1,103 head last week and 1,768 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to weak on offerings over 700 pounds and not well tested under 700 pounds. Good run of cows, over 300 head, with an uneven trade which was steady to $1 lower early in the sale and it improved as the sale progressed ending the sale steady to $2 higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 30% of the offering, slaughter bulls 3%, replacement cows 10% and feeders 57%. The feeder supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers, with nearly 75% of the run over 600 pounds. Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 122.00, package 456 lbs., full 110.00; package 546 lbs., 112.00; string 776 lbs., 116.75; 875 to 900 lbs., 107.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 111.00 to 114.00; load 812 lbs., fleshy 105.00; 870 to 900 lbs., 102.00 to 104.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 748 lbs., 109.00. Small and medium frame 2 to 3, package 537 lbs., 95.00. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 58.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 57.00 to 60.25; high dressing, 61.00 to 64.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 55.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 57.00 to 59.60; high dressing, 60.00 to 62.00; low dressing, 53.00 to 56.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 52.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 55.50 to 59.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 52.00. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 74.50 to 76.75; high dressing, 1400 to 1900 lbs., 78.00; low dressing, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 70.00 to 72.50. Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 5 months bred, 650.00 to 720.00 per head.
