Ag-based entrepreneurs, economic developers, business leaders invited to Agriculture Marketing informational sessionsSessions to summarize financial, technical assistance available through Department of Commerce Kansas
The Kansas Department of Commerce, in conjunction with Kansas Resource Conservation and Development, will host four informational sessions to provide agriculture-based entrepreneurs, economic developers and business leaders an overview of assistance available from the Department's Agriculture Marketing Division. The sessions will summarize the financial and technical assistance available through the Division, including grants, loans and educational opportunities, as well as value-added topics like niche marketing, specialty livestock production and agritourism. Specific Commerce programs to be discussed include: --Simply Kansas; --Agritourism Attraction Development Loan Program; --Diversified Farm and Specialty Production Loan Program; --Agriculture Value Added Loan Program. The sessions are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Snacks and beverages will be served. "It's crucial that Kansas producers find new ways to process and market their products," said Carole Jordan, Agriculture Marketing Division Director. "That's what value-added agriculture is all about. These sessions will summarize the assistance available to farmers, ranchers and other value-added producers looking to expand their operations." The schedule for the four sessions is as follows: Aug. 25, Memorial Building, 101 S. Lincoln, Chanute, Kan., 10 a.m. Aug. 27, Jackson County 4-H Building, 5th and Dakota, Holton, Kan., 10 a.m. Aug. 28, American Legion Building, 2921 W. 12th Avenue, Emporia, Kan., 10 a.m. Sept. 18, Location TBD, Concordia, Kan. The Agriculture Marketing Division is committed to improving the economic condition of Kansas producers and boosting the prosperity of rural communities. The Division accomplishes this by acting as a catalyst for economic development through initiatives like Agritourism, the Agriculture Value Added Center, the Simply Kansas trademark program and various international and domestic marketing programs.
