Wheat growers invited to learn how to maximize profits

SUBHEAD: HPJ, Bayer CropScience hosting Profit Maximizer event in Wichita Aug. 26

High Plains Journal, in partnership with Bayer CropScience, will be hosting the 2008 Profit Maximizer Wheat Summit, August 26 at the Broadview Hotel in Wichita from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This one-day event promotes intensive wheat management techniques as a way to support Kansas and Oklahoma growers with improved profits for their individual farming operations.

Participation is open to the farming public, but reservations are required. Only 250 seats will be available at the event, which includes a continental breakfast, luncheon and promotional drawings. Attendees must register before Aug. 15, by calling 1-877-365-4287 or signing-up on the web at www.regonline.com/wichitawheat. Ag retailers and crop consultants are also welcome to attend with proper registration.

2008 Profit Maximizer Wheat Summit speakers will include Kansas State University Extension specialists discussing critical agronomic topics and farm bill issues. Industry experts will focus on grain marketing strategies, intensive wheat management practices and new production technologies.

9:15 to 10 a.m.-- "Marketing Realities in Global Wheat Production," Bill Holbrook, Senior Analyst, The ProExporter Network, Kansas City, Mo.

10 to 11 a.m.-- "Profit Strategies for On-Farm Success," Moe Russell, President, Russell Consulting Group, Panora, Iowa

11a.m. to 12 noon -- Profit Maximizer Grower Panel

12 noon to 1:30 p.m. -- "Washington Outlook: U.S. Farm Bill and the 2008 Elections," Barry L. Flinchbaugh, Ph.D., Professor of Agricultural Economics, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. -- "Intensive Wheat Management and Improved Crop Fertility Strategies," Dale Leikam, Ph.D., Agronomic Crop Consultant, Leikam AgroMax, Manhattan, Kan.

2:30 to 3:30 p.m. -- "Solutions to Problem Weeds and Herbicide Resistance," Dallas Peterson, Ph.D., Extension Weed Specialist, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.; and "Wheat Disease Management and Foliar Fungicide Benefits," Erick De Wolf, Ph.D., Extension Specialist, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.

3:30 to 4 p.m. -- "Good Management Ensures Profitability," Greg Hudec, Technical Service Representative, Bayer CropScience, Manhattan, Kan.

As part of the program, five farm operators from Kansas and Oklahoma will serve on an open forum grower panel discussing their individual wheat management techniques and taking questions from the audience. Growers on panel will be Perry Hanson, Garden City, Kan.; Calvin Boyd, Medicine Lodge, Kan.; Ron Jacques, Hutchinson, Kan.; Mike Jordan, Beloit, Kan.; Bill Steinart, Fairmont, Okla.

Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Note: Attendees MUST BE REGISTERED to attend and qualify for the luncheon and prize drawings.
