West Plains regional sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 1,550 head Aug. 5, compared to 2,522 head last week and 3,850 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, MO.

Compared to last week, steers 400 to 700 pounds and heifers 450 to 600 pounds sold $1 to $3 lower, several heifers were $2 to $3 lower. Heavier weights were steady to $2 higher on yearlings. Light and feather weight calves 250 to 400 pounds only a limited test were firm to $2 higher. A limited supply of Holsteins steers, although not comparable, traded $2 to $5 stronger than comparable sales of late. The supply was light. Demand was uneven, best on light weight calves under 400 pounds weaned and vaccinated middle weight calves and about any yearling. A few buyers saying phone calls from customers have been awfully sparse. But indicating lower corn market having everything to do with stronger feeder cattle market, however the severe heat and heat index having a negative effect on the calf market this week due to heat related stress. The supply consisted of 40% steers, 11% bulls and 49% heifers, with nearly 45% over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 350 lbs., 116.00 to 122.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 112.00 to 116.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 106.50 to 114.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 112.50; 700 to 760 lbs., 107.00 to 110.00; part to load 810 lbs., 109.25. Medium and large frame 2, couple lots 350 to 425 lbs., 118.00 to 118.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00, package fleshy 450 lbs., 105.00; few 500 to 600 lbs., 104.00 to 111.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 105.50 to 108.50; lot Brahman-cross 825 lbs., 104.75; package 877 lbs., 98.00; lot 958 lbs., 94.00.

Feeder Holsteins: Large frame 3, 595 to 600 lbs., 72.50 to 75.00; lot 686 lbs., 70.00; package and lot 739 to 771 lbs., 74.00 to 74.50; lot 980 lbs., 72.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 345 to 370 lbs., 111.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 101.00 to 110.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 105.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 99.50 to 105.00, package fleshy 655 lbs., 96.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 400 to 500 lbs., 101.50 to 107.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.00 to 103.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 98.00 to 104.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 100.00 to 103.50.
