Sioux Falls sheep sales reportThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,703 head Aug. 5, compared to 1,223 head last week and 1,557 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold mostly $2 lower. Buyer demand was moderate, with moderate to light demand. Ewes sold $3 to $4 lower. Feeder lambs sold mostly $5 higher, with moderate to good demand. Lower grain prices have increased the attractiveness of feeder lambs. The sheep supply consisted 42% slaughter lambs, 15% slaughter ewes, and 43% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 133 to 143 lbs., 108.50 to 110.75 (109.81); 103 head, 154 lbs., 110.50. Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 132 to 133 lbs., 102.50 to 106.00 (105.10). Shorn, Good and Choice 1 to 2, 9 head, 111 lbs., 95.00; 12 head, 145 lbs., 93.00; 13 head, 152 to 155 lbs., 93.75 to 94.00 (93.81). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 25 head, 138 lbs., 107.25. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 119 to 128 lbs., 99.50 to 103.00 (102.45); 36 head, 130 lbs., 103.50 to 104.50 (104.11). Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good 1 to 2, 13 head, 134 lbs., 51.00 Old Crop. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 161 to 188 lbs., 24.75 to 25.50 (25.15). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 139 to 159 lbs., 19.25 to 22.00 (20.36). Utility 1 to 2, 123 to 153 lbs., 13.00 to 16.50 (14.51).
