Salina cattle auction report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 3,323 head July 31, compared to 2,016 head last week and 3,644 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 400 to 550 pounds and heifers at 400 to 600 pounds showed no comparison with last week, but an extremely higher under tone was noted. Steers at 550 to 800 pounds were $3 to $5 higher, and 800 to 1050 pounds were $1 to $2 higher. Heifers at 600 to 800 pounds were $2 to $5 higher, and 800 to 950 pounds were steady to $1 higher. Trade was active and demand was good. Receipts included 88% 600 pounds and over, 11% 600 pounds and under, 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 84% steers and 16% heifers.
