Preplant Wheat Meeting at Assaria Aug. 19

Area wheat farmers are invited to attend a Preplant Wheat Meeting at the Assaria City Building, 315 W. Main in Assaria, Kan., Aug. 19. Coffee and donuts will be available starting at 8:15 a.m., and the program will start at 8:30 a.m., and adjourn by 10:30 a.m. The meeting is sponsored by Central Kansas Extension District.

Jim Shroyer, K-State Extension agronomist will discuss wheat variety performance in 2008, variety selection for 2009, seeding dates and seeding rates. Erick De Wolf, K-State Extension plant pathologist will discuss wheat disease problems in 2008 and how to manage them in 2009. He will also cover wheat seed treatments for wheat that was affected by scab, bunt, loose smut and black point. Tom Maxwell, District Extension agent will discuss fertilizer decisions for the 2009 wheat crop and using soil testing to fine-tune your fertilizer program.

All interested persons are encouraged to attend the meeting. Please RSVP to the CKD-Salina office at 785-309-5850 so adequate materials available.
