Nebraska beef to be on Hong Kong shelves

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)--The largest food retailer in Hong Kong will feature Nebraska beef for two weeks.

State officials hope that having Nebraska beef at Jusco stores in Hong Kong will lead to a long-term with the retailer. A full-time placement on Jusco shelves could significantly increase demand for Nebraska beef since Hong Kong is already the seventh largest importer of Nebraska beef.

The state's international efforts to increase sales of Nebraska beef also include participation in an international food expo in Guatemala in September.

Gov. Dave Heineman said Guatemala is an emerging market because of its growing middle class. Also, in August government leaders from the country will be in Nebraska gathering information to develop policies on genetically modified crops.
