Juniors Hereford Future Cattleman scholarships honor youthRoxane Gebhart, Claremore, Okla., and Audrey Hambright, Chapman, Kan., were awarded $1,000 Future Cattleman scholarships, July 18 at the Junior National Hereford Expo in Kansas City. Administered by the Hereford Youth Foundation of America, the scholarships honor National Junior Hereford Association members who are full-time college students studying agriculture and obtaining a degree directly related the Hereford industry. Gebhart has been a member of the NJHA and the Junior Hereford Association of Oklahoma for 12 years and is a member of the NJHA board of directors. She has also served two-terms as JHAO president. She has shown Hereford cattle all over the country and has won numerous awards, including titles at the JNHE in Louisville and grand champion owned and bred-and-owned Hereford heifer at the Arizona National Livestock Show. Gebhart has also been active in a variety of organizations, serving as president of the Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen's Association as well as being involved in 4-H and FFA. She attends Oklahoma State University where she is majoring in animal science, specializing in business. Hambright has been active in the Kansas Junior Polled Hereford Association and the NJHA. She is a past recipient of the Junior Golden Bull award, JNHE Prospect award and the KJPHA Senior Herdsman award. In high school, she was involved with 4-H, National Honor Society and yearbook staff. Hambright has also won her share of awards in the showring, including titles at the state and national level and showing a reserve division champion at the American Royal Junior Show. This fall, Hambright will be transferring from Colby Community College in Colby, Kan., to Kansas State University where she will pursue a degree in agriculture business with an emphasis on the beef industry. The NJHA is one of the most active junior programs in the country with approximately 3,000 members. The NJHA's mission is to create and promote enthusiasm for the breed while providing opportunities through leadership, education and teamwork.
