Joplin regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 3,992 head Aug. 4, compared to 3,300 head last week and 5,136 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 800 pounds were steady, over 800 pounds were steady to $1 higher, heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, over 600 pounds were steady. Demand was moderate to good, supply moderate. The bulk of the calves were weaned, with one to two rounds of vaccinations. Temperatures in mid to upper nineties with high humidity will start turning pastures brown, and slowing the rate of gain on grazing cattle. The feeder supply included 54% steers, 42% heifers, 3% bulls, with 59% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 450 to 500 lbs., 117.00 to 121.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 118.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 114.50 to 117.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 108.00 to 113.50; 825 to 900 lbs., 108.50 to 111.00; 900 to 1000 lbs., 103.00 to 107.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 118.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 107.00 to 114.00, thin 117.50 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 107.00 to 112.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.50 to 111.50; 800 to 825 lbs., 107.50 to 108.00; lot 953 lbs., 103.75.

Feeder Holstein steers: Large frame 3, 700 to 800 lbs., 70.00 to 72.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 102.50 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 111.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 106.50; 700 to 775 lbs., 101.00 to 104.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 97.25 to 100.50, package fleshy 94.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 375 to 400 lbs., 102.00 to 104.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 105.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.00 to 107.50, lot thin 109.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 95.00 to 103.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 91.50 to 104.85; lot 805 lbs., 104.85.
