Governor says EU reconsidering beef banLINCOLN, Neb. (AP)--Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman will travel to Brussels this fall to address European Union officials he says are reconsidering the union's ban on importing beef treated with growth hormones. Heineman is expected to be the first U.S. governor to address the agriculture committee of the union's parliament. Heineman hosted the chairman of the committee in May on a trip to learn about ag-related issues in Nebraska. State Ag Director Greg Ibach said concerns that Europe may not have a large enough beef supply to meet demand has leaders there revisiting the ban. The EU has said beef treated with certain hormones poses a risk to human health. The World Trade Organization has backed the U.S. and Canada in their dispute over the 27-nation bloc's ban. 8/11/08 Date: 8/6/08 Advertisement
