Auctioneer excels at Texas Auctioneer's Convention

Texas

More than 500 Texas Auctioneers and their families recently gathered in Sugar Land, held June 26 to 28 for their annual convention and show, highlighted by the 2008 Texas Auctioneer Competition. The competition was strong as usual as more than 50 Auctioneers and Professional Ringman, all with diverse backgrounds competed for top honors in divisions including Rookie, Senior, Ringman, and Texas State Champion. These men and women contestants are widely regarded as the best the state of Texas has to offer.

Taking home the top prize of 2008 Texas State Champion was Luther Davis from Burleson, Texas. Joining Luther on the podium were 1st Runner up Clay Golden of Lockney, 2nd Runner Up Angie Meier of Ennis, 3rd Runner Austin Fullinghim of Weatherford, and 4th Runner up Jeff Dunning of Mesquite.

Contestants were judged on professionalism, chant, voice, body language, and other elements of effective auctioneering. There is also an interview segment during the semi-finals to judge the contestants ability to react to questions and represent the TAA as its spokesperson.

As champion, Luther won a $1,000 cash prize, a championship ring, and a paid entry fee into the NAA sponsored International Auctioneer's Championship in July 2009 in Overland Park, Kan., as the representative for the TAA. In addition to spokesperson, Luther's duties will include conducting the annual TAA Toy Auction for the children of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in December. Luther will auction toys donated by the TAA to patients who will use play money to bid on the toys.
