Wheat rated in mostly fair to good condition

The state of Colorado received below average amounts of precipitation during the week ending March 30, according to the National Agricultural Statistics service, Colorado Field Office, March 31.

Overall, snowpack is down 2 percent from the previous week to 121 percent of the state average. Temperatures across the state were a little above average for this time of year. Farmers were allowed 4.6 days in the field for spring operations.

Winter wheat was 9 percent pastured last week, with the crop rated in mostly fair to good condition. Spring barley was 12 percent seeded by week's end, which is behind the five-year average of 19 percent. Dry onions were 25 percent planted, up 15 percent from last week, and spring wheat was 10 percent seeded. Sugarbeets were 5 percent planted by week's end.

Pasture and range feed conditions were rated mostly poor and fair across the state. Fifty-eight percent of cows have calved since January 1st while 49 percent of the ewes have lambed during the same time frame. Death losses for cattle and sheep were both rated slightly above average. Stored feed supplies are rated at average for this time of year.
