Overton scientist receives American Society of Agronomy Fellow Award

Texas

Dr. Vincent Haby, Texas AgriLife Research soils scientist has received a 2007 American Society of Agronomy Fellow Award.

He was recognized for his "excellent combination of applied and fundamental experimentation," according to the American Society of Agronomy officials.

Haby is based at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Overton. Dr. Monte Rouquette, AgriLife Research forage scientist also based at the center, said Haby's hard work for East Texas agriculture goes far beyond the average.

"With his strong commitment to providing alternative cropping systems for producer groups and clientele, Vince has reworked the soil fertility-management principles necessary for successful establishment and sustainable use of alfalfa in East Texas and throughout the southeastern U.S," Rouquette said.

Haby's research has given "critical support" to numerous research efforts, including work in soil fertility, plant nutrition, water quality, agronomic and horticultural crop production, sustainable farming systems, forestry, forage production, and animal science, Rouquette said.

Haby's previous awards include: the Texas A&M University System Regents Fellow award, the Texas-Louisiana AgLime and Fertilizer Association Meritorious Service Award, and a Texas A&M University superior achievement award for Research, Soil and Crop Sciences Department. Haby has also received the Texas A&M Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence for Team Research three times for different projects: blueberries, legumes and ryegrass.

Haby belongs and has served as an officer in numerous professional organizations and is a certified professional soil scientist, listed in the American Registry of Certified Professionals in Agronomy, and a certified professional geoscientist by the Texas Association of Professional Geoscientists.
