KCA announces results from 2008 elections, policy vote

Kansas

The Kansas Cattlemen's Association producer members recently held elections by mail in ballot. Voting resulted in adding a new policy to the association as well as electing two new board members who will serve KCA for a three year term.

Overwhelmingly, KCA members voted in favor of supporting energy production that is vital to rural communities and producers in Kansas. This is an issue that KCA has not previously held policy on. Based on the membership input, KCA will now move forward in addressing this issue in Topeka and throughout Kansas.

As well as adding policy, Board elections took place. Two members of the Board have completed their three year term will be departing this year. Casey Kimberlin, Buffalo, Kan., and Dave Bowman, Brewster, Kan., have both served on the Board since 2005.

As two Board members complete their terms, KCA welcomes its newest Board members, Perry Owens, and Hal Luthi.

Hal Luthi, Madison, Kan., is a partner in a three generation cattle operation with his father Harold and son Dallas. Luthi's operation backgrounds on the edge of the Flint Hills and maintains ownership in commercial feedlots in southwest Kansas. The Luthi family markets bulls from their black Simmental cowherd primarily by private treaty.

Perry Owens grew up in the cattle business watching and learning from his dad and other "old school" cattlemen on how to market cattle and not give them away. Owens has been involved in the feed yard side of the cattle business since 1979, and is currently managing Ottawa County Feeders, Inc., in Minneapolis, Kan.
