Colorado Young Farmers Educational Association holds successful instituteColorado Greg Wright from Brighton was elected president of the Colorado Young Farmers Educational Association at the organization's 39th annual Institute Feb. 1 and 2 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Denver, Colo. Wright is a member of the Front Range Chapter which includes members from the Brighton and Fort Lupton areas. Other new officers for the 2008-2009 year are: Don Wright, Front Range Chapter, Northeastern vice president; Dan Ross, Southeastern vice president, Yuma Chapter; Kyle Hagerty, Brush Chapter, Western vice president; Eric Kipp, Yuma Chapter, secretary; Kevin Hansen, Brush Chapter, treasurer; Maureen Whittington, Northeastern Junior College Chapter, reporter and Lynn Wright, Front Range Chapter, immediate past president. Will Nelson from the Thompson Valley Chapter won the Spokesperson for Agriculture contest. He will represent Colorado in the national contest in December of this year in Baltimore, Md. The Fort Morgan Chapter was named the Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer Chapter for 2008. The Front Range Chapter was named runner-up for this award. The St. Vrain Chapter in Longmont received the Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer Chapter Community Service Award. Doug Dietz from Cope, a member of the Arickaree Chapter was recognized as the Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer from the Northeastern Region. The 2008 Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer Advisor was presented to Steve Sterkel, advisor of the Front Range Chapter. Bryson Miller, from Brush and a member of the Fort Morgan Chapter was named the Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer Agri-Business Award winner. Kelly Huenink from Hudson and a member of the St. Vrain Chapter received the Outstanding Colorado Young Farmer Agri-Service Award. Honorary Member Awards were presented to Jacqui Larson from Gill, long time Colorado Spokesperson for Agriculture Coordinator and Mark Kokes from Fort Morgan, a leader in Young Farmer programs in Colorado. The Photo of Agriculture Contest winners included: Conrad Bostron from the Fort Morgan Chapter--rural scenery; Dale Whittington representing the Northeastern Junior College Chapter--human interest; and Lynn Wright from the Front Range Chapter in the chapter activities category. The 40th Colorado Young Farmers Educational Association Institute will be hosted in February 2009 by members of the Fort Morgan Chapter. 4/7/08 Date: 4/2/08
