American Farmers and Ranchers presents award to Steve KouplenAward recognizes outstanding lifelong service Oklahoma Oklahoma City-based American Farmers and Ranchers presented Steve Kouplen with the American Farmers & Ranchers Agriculture Leadership Award during the 103rd annual convention banquet of the organization Feb. 9 in downtown Oklahoma City. "It has been a pleasure working with Steve over the past few years as he served as president of Oklahoma Farm Bureau. His heart has been about doing what is right for agriculture and rural communities," said AFR President and CEO Ray L. Wulf as he presented the award. "Steve Kouplen has been involved in agriculture all his life and continues to operate a commercial Hereford cow-calf herd started by his parents near Beggs, Okla., where he has been a lifelong resident. In addition, he also grows wheat, alfalfa and grass hay. "We recognize Steve's three-plus decades of tireless service to agriculture. After eight years as president at OFB - the maximum allowed under the organization's by-laws - he is ready to take on new challenges in the name of agriculture. While there, he served eight years at the national level on insurance and bank and policy related boards. He has traveled extensively - both domestically and internationally - representing Oklahoma on various trade missions promoting Oklahoma agriculture," said Wulf. At home, Kouplen has served on the local electric cooperative, school, fair, FSA and rural water boards and he is currently a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and the American Hereford Association. Kouplen earned both a Bachelor and Master Degree in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University and has been active in FFA, winning both the Northeast District Star Farmer of Oklahoma and the American Farmer Degree. He has two grown children. Looking to the future, Kouplen is now running for the Oklahoma Legislature. ====Photo caption==== Ray L.
