West Plains regional sales reportThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,000 head April 22, compared to 3,086 head last week and 3,126 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers and heifers generally were $2 to $5 higher, exception were 4 weight steers uneven, top to end steady, second cut were $3 to $5 lower, with last week's top hand on these classes out of this week's market. The supply was moderate. Demand was good, in spite of crude topping $118 a barrel. Even though cattle futures closed to the plus side, any feeder gains were quickly nullified by continued higher corn futures. The supply consisted of 38% steers, 6% bulls and 56% heifers, with nearly 39% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 116.00 to 126.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 111.00 to 123.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 123.00, fleshy/fat 540 to 580 lbs., 92.00 to 98.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 112.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 106.50.
