Tyson Foods will close York plant and cut 110 jobs

OMAHA, Neb. (AP)--Tyson Foods Inc., says it will close its processing plant in York and eliminate 110 jobs there as part of an effort to improve efficiency.

Tyson announced the move in a statement April 18. Employees at the plant will continue to receive pay and benefits through June 17.

The Springdale, Ark., company says it will shift production from the York plant to its Emporia, Kan., plant.

Tyson vice president Roy Slaughter says the company believes the larger Emporia plant will be more efficient.

The York plant, which was built in 1952, produces uncooked meats such as flat iron steak and other sliced beef and pork products for retail and foodservice customers.
