Pasture, range conditions rated mostly poor to fairColorado Most of Colorado received below average amounts of precipitation during the week ending April 20, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, April 21. However, the San Luis Valley and Pueblo areas received above average moisture. Mountain Snowpack is down 6 percent from the previous week to 124 percent of the state average. Temperatures across the state were above average for this time of year. Farmers were allowed 5.4 days in the field for spring operations. Winter wheat was 1 percent pastured and 28 percent jointed this week with the crop rated in mostly fair to good condition. Spring barley was 45 percent seeded by week's end, up 13 percent from the previous week. Dry onions were 72 percent planted and spring wheat was 34 percent seeded. Sugarbeets were 34 percent planted and corn was 6 percent planted by week's end. Pasture and range feed conditions were rated mostly poor to fair across the state. Eighty-two percent of cows have calved since January 1st while 78 percent of the ewes have lambed during the same time frame. Death losses for cattle and sheep were both rated average.
