Amarillo livestock auction

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 551 head April 22, compared to 709 head last week and 1,793 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not enough for an adequate market price trend comparison. Slaughter cows and bulls were not enough for an adequate test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Slaughter cows made up 2% of the offering, slaughter bulls less than 1/2%, replacement cows 7% and feeders 90%. The feeder supply included 48% steers and 52% heifers, with nearly 68% over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 383 lbs., 125.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 129.00; lot 829 lbs., 99.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 108.00 to 115.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 114.00; package 587 lbs., 110.50; package 600 lbs., 105.00; package 825 lbs., 97.00. Medium and large frame 2, load 804 lbs., 92.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 343 lbs., 117.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 100.00 to 103.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 86.50 to 87.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 392 lbs., 107.00; package 444 lbs., 96.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 91.00 to 95.00; load 754 lbs., 94.25. Medium and large frame 2, package 636 lbs., 83.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, lot 753 lbs., 80.50.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 49.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 54.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 50.75; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 46.50; low dressing, 37.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1590 to 2175 lbs., 62.50 to 66.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 900 to 1300 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, 700.00 to 940.00 per head; aged, 950 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 530.00 to 690.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 850 to 1300 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 750.00 to 900.00.
