Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending April 12, totaled 1,100 head, compared to 5,300 head last week and 3,450 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady in a light test. Overall quality was less attractive than previous tests. Direct trading very slow this week with no comparison available. Demand was light to moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 38% of the supply, heifers 62%. Offerings over 600 lbs., totaled around 23%. Direct sales accounted for 150 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 335 to 380 lbs., 131.00 to 134.00; 435 lbs., 134.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 123.00 to 131.00; 530 lbs., 121.00; 585 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 116.50; 615 to 620 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00; 715 to 740 lbs., 94.25 to 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 485 lbs., 119.50; 600 lbs., 104.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1 FOB Price: 730 lbs., 96.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 340 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 125.50; 400 to 475 lbs., 108.00 to 114.00; 500 lbs., 98.00; 610 lbs., 101.00; 660 to 685 lbs., 82.50 to 85.25. Medium frame 1 to 2, 375 lbs., 105.00; 440 to 445 lbs., 102.00 to 103.50; 510 lbs., 98.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 495 lbs., 100.00; 550 to 575 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, no sales reported.
