West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,000 head April 15, compared to 2,967 head last week and 2,628 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 800 pounds were $3 to $5 higher, over 800 pounds not well tested. Heifers under 450 pounds were steady to $2 higher, 450 to 700 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, over 700 pounds limited test was steady. The supply was moderate. Demand was good. Buyers, for one reason or another turned more aggressive this week, although full advance in the market noted mainly on English and English to cross blacks. Even though buyers preferred weaned calves, they didn't seem nearly as critical this week of the un-weaned calves if they were of upper quality uniform bunches, not running to creep and the color suited. The supply consisted 53% steers and 47% heifers, with nearly 51% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 122.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 111.00 to 118.00, some fleshy 105.00 to 107.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 110.00, thin/weaned near 600 lbs., 110.50 to 115.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 104.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 111.00 to 121.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 120.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 107.00 to 116.00, thin/weaned 114.00 to 118.00, fleshy 102.50 to 105.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 109.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 103.00, few fleshy 90.00 to 91.50; package 871 lbs., 92.50. Medium and large frame 2, package 305 lbs., thin 129.00; 500 to 530 lbs., 101.00 to 110.00, package thin 114.50, 550 to 600 lbs., fleshy 94.00 to 96.00, package yearlings 555 lbs., 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 94.50 to 104.00; few near 700 lbs., 98.00 to 101.00; few 800 to 900 lbs., 85.00 to 92.50.

Holstein steers: Large frame 3, lot 394 lbs., 75.00; package 3 to 4 403 lbs., 66.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 102.50 to 111.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 92.00 to 99.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 91.00 to 97.00; few 700 to 760 lbs., 90.00 to 91.00, package replacements 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 102.00 to 111.00, thin 360 to 400 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 98.00 to 106.00, thin/weaned over 450 lbs., 106.00 to 108.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.50 to 100.50, package thin 517 lbs., 102.50, fleshy 524 lbs., 92.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 91.50 99.50; lot 737 lbs., 89.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 82.50 to 90.00.
