Superman meets Batman in Pauls Valley, OklahomaBy Susen Foster
Welcome to the world class, world's only Toy & Action Figure Museum. Located in Pauls Valley, Okla., this one-of-a-kind museum showcases thousands of colorful super heroes and evil bad guy action figures. Batman and Superman, along with their cronies and adversaries, are only two of the popular action heroes who are presented in huge, colorful displays. Joined by their friends from Trilogy of the Rings, Star Wars and the Simpsons, these posable figures energize your imagination. In addition, the museum is the first to feature a behind-the-scenes tribute to the talented designers, sculptors, and toy companies, who took action figures from playthings to works of art. The Toy & Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley is also home of the Oklahoma Cartoonists Collection featuring a brilliant display of works by published Oklahoma comic artists and writers such as Chester Gould of Dick Tracy fame, and Jack and Carole Bender, who currently work on Alley Oop. The entire building is just plain fun. And it begins at the front door where guests are greeted by an immense purple dinosaur and spindly legged 'Geezer'--the world's first 79-year-old superhero. The museum gift shop, with its unusual selection of merchandise, is a super place to find gifts for any special occasion. On Pearl Harbor Day, the Toy & Action Figure Museum held the grand opening of its latest enterprise--an exhibit of posable military figures commemorating the patriotic sacrifice of U.S. soldiers during combat in World War II. It is a heartfelt tribute to all our veterans. But don't worry, kids. The museum is not "don't touch, please." In fact, there are several more-than-fun interactive areas. One of the most popular is the Super Room where kids of all ages can dress up as their favorite action hero and leap tall buildings in a single...well, you get the picture. The museum is located at 111 South Chickasaw Street. Take Exit 72 off Interstate 35 and head east into Pauls Valley on Highway 19. Turn south, or right, on Chickasaw. The museum is open Tuesday thru Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. Call 405-238-6300 or visit www.actionfiguremuseum.com.
