Springfield livestock salesThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 1,839 head April 9, compared to 2,258 head last week and 1,966 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers, Holsteins and heifers were steady to $2 lower. Demand and supply was moderate. The bulk of the calves and yearlings in medium to fleshy condition, with a few thin cattle in the mix. Corn futures rallied back to closed higher. Live cattle and feeder cattle futures closed lower. Southwest Missouri has plenty of moisture with more on the way. A few days of sunshine would be beneficial for pastures. The feeder supply included 31% steers, 26% Holsteins, 32% heifers, 12% bulls, with 34% over 600 pounds.
