Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 480 head April 14, compared to 790 head last week and 646 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs and feeder lambs were too few for an accurate comparison. Slaughter ewes were mostly steady. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate to good demand. Receipts included about 72% slaughter ewes, 19% feeder lambs, 5% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks, yearlings and wethers.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 11 head, 135 to 143 lbs., 90.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 4, 8 head, 147 lbs., 84.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 5 head, 159 lbs., 30.00; 160 to 172 lbs., 25.00 to 31.50 (26.43); 7 head, 162 to 17 lbs., 32.50 to 33.50 (32.91) gaunt. Good 2 to 4, 7 head, 190 to 191 lbs., 23.00 to 25.00 (23.85); 19 head, 203 to 215 lbs., 20.00 to 26.50 (21.31). Utility 1 to 2, 144 to 150 lbs., 14.00 to 18.50 (16.65). Cull and Utility 1 to 2, 21 head, 160 lbs., 12.00. Cull 1, 124 to 146 lbs., 6.00 to 10.00 (7.13).

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 20 head, 37 lbs., 125.50 New Crop; 12 head, 96 lbs., 111.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 19 head, 59 lbs., 107.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 24 head, 63 lbs., 116.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 123 to 126 lbs., 53.00 to 54.00 (53.20).
