National 4-H, FFA livestock and meats judging contests held in Denver

More than 800 youth from more than 30 states along with Alberta, Canada participated in the 88th Annual Western National Roundup Conference Jan. 9 to 13 in Denver, Colo. 4-H and FFA members between the ages of 14 and 19 qualify for the conference either by winning their home state's contest or by being chosen as a state delegate. The Livestock and Meats Judging contests were open to youth members from both 4-H and FFA.

Each state is allowed to enter one 4-H and one FFA team in each contest, with no more than four team members. The Livestock Judging contest will be comprised of 10 classes; three beef, one goat, three swine and three sheep. Contestants will defend their placings on six of those classes with a two-minute prepared oral set of reasons, one market and one breeding class for each species. The Meats Judging Contest will have classes in grading, placings and retail ID and three sets of oral reasons.
