American Lamb Board approves six supplier cooperative funding programs

The American Lamb Board has approved funding for six Supplier Cooperative Funding Programs for the first funding cycle in FY 2008. The programs that have been approved by the board, pending the U.S. Department of Agriculture's review and approval, include:

--Superior Farms Colorado Proud American Lamb promotion including local publicity and retail promotions with Alberstons and King Soopers throughout Colorado;

--Blue Mountain Meats promotion to increase consumption of lamb and mutton on Native American reservations in the Four Corners area;

--Catelli Brothers summer grilling promotions with Acme Markets (stores throughout Pa., N.J., and Del.) and Winn Dixie (stores throughout Fla.);

--Superior Farms American Lamb promotion at Catersource 2008 Trade Show reaching approximately 4,000 catering professionals;

--Iowa Lamb Corporation's Summer Promotion with Hy-Vee Stores (230 stores in Iowa, Neb., Kan., Ill., Minn., S.D., and Mo.); and

--Superior Farms "American Lamb Club" promotions with Harris Teeters stores (166 stores in N.C., S.C., Va., Ga., Tenn. and Fla.)

The Supplier Cooperative Program is a two-cycle per year program. Applications for the second funding cycle will be announced May 1. The program was established to encourage suppliers to promote American lamb products in the retail and foodservice sectors. The cooperative funds require a dollar-for-dollar match and in-kind contributions do not qualify as matching funds.

The American Lamb Board is a national promotion, research and information organization whose purpose is to strengthen the position of lamb and lamb products in domestic and foreign markets. The 13-member board, appointed by the secretary of agriculture, is composed of six producers, three feeders, one seedstock producer and three first handlers. The work of the board is overseen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agriculture Marketing Service. All grants approved by ALB are subject to USDA's review and approval.
