2008 Rocky Mountain Junior Beef Expo set May 24 and 25Colorado The 2008 Rocky Mountain Junior Beef Expo is scheduled for May 24 and 25 at Island Grove Park in Greeley, Colo. This open to the world steer and heifer show is for all young people ages eight through 20 on the day of the show. Prizes for the supreme champion heifer and steer will be $1,000 with $500 for second place; $250 for third; and $100 for fourth place. Breed champions will receive a trophy belt buckles and reserves will receive gear bags. This two-day event held over Memorial Day weekend also features a judging contest May 24. Contestants evaluate eight classes of beef cattle and the seniors will give oral reasons. May 24 also is a time for individual breed activities. A complimentary hamburger fry for all the participants and their families and the show sponsors will be held in the evening May 24. Activities on May 25 begin with the heifer show at 8 a.m., followed by the steer show in the afternoon. Registered heifers, born between Sept. 1, 2006 and Dec. 31, 2007, will be shown by age and breed. Steers will be shown by weight and breed, and crossbred steers will be shown by weight. In addition, there will be a commercial heifer jackpot show following the heifer classes. The Rocky Mountain Junior Beef Expo was organized in 1999 by a group of volunteers. The show averages 150 exhibitors from Colorado as well as New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana and Texas. This show and prizes are made possible by breed association sponsorships and donations from interested agribusinesses and individuals. These sponsors have made it possible to give significant awards to the young people who participate in the various contests.
