Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending April 5, totaled 5,300 head, compared to 2,350 head last week and 3,150 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold $1 to $3 lower. Overall quality was less attractive than the previous test. Heavier cattle carried moderate flesh. Direct trading was at a standstill with no sales reported. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate on light offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 45% of the supply, heifers 55%, with 75% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 0 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 460 lbs., 122.00; 515 lbs., 114.00; 640 lbs., 104.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 530 lbs., 111.00. Medium and large frame 2, 745 lbs., 93.25.
