Workshops help Colorado agriculture producers diversifyColorado From corn mazes and wineries to bird-watching and ranch vacations, agritourism in Colorado and across the nation is gaining in popularity. In fact, in 2006, more than 13 million in- and out-of-state visitors experienced agritourism in Colorado, resulting in an economic contribution of $2.2 billion to Colorado's economy. To help the state's agricultural producers learn about agritourism as an option for their operations, workshops are scheduled for April 21 in Delta, Colo. and April 22 in Cortez, Colo. "Colorado agriculture is diversifying into new areas," said Wendy White, marketing specialist for the Colorado Department of Agriculture. "Our goal is to help producers effectively build their agritourism operations." Each day-long workshop provides enterprises with the market analysis, business planning tools and networking opportunities to succeed. Topics include assessing your resources, engaging your community, understanding legal implications of different agritourism operations, branding and marketing your product and a panel discussion featuring current agritourism operators. The registration fee for each workshop is $25, which includes a workbook and lunch. To register, visit www.coloradoagritourism.com or contact Wendy White at 303-239-4119. This workshop series is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Colorado State University Extension and the Western Center for Risk Management Education. 4/14/08 Date: 4/9/08
