Trade group ranks Colorado second in wind energy installationsColorado The American Wind Energy Association released its "Annual Rankings Report" and Colorado is second in new wind installations for 2007. Colorado added 776 MW of wind power, which is enough to power 230,000 homes. Additionally, Colorado's largest utility, Xcel Energy, was ranked first in public utilities that deliver wind energy. "Wind energy forms a cornerstone of our New Energy Economy, so I'm gratified to see Colorado recognized for our effort to develop wind projects," said Gov. Ritter. "Wind powers our homes and businesses with clean energy, and it spurs economic development for our rural communities. I'd also like to congratulate Xcel Energy for being ranked first in delivering wind power to Colorado consumers." Colorado currently has a total of 1064 MW of wind energy installed, ranking it sixth overall in total wind power capacity. AWEA is a national trade association representing wind power project developers, equipment suppliers, services providers, parts manufacturers, utilities, researchers and others involved in the wind industry.
