Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 790 head April 7, compared to 570 head last week and 565 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to two weeks ago, trends were not applicable on slaughter and feeder lambs due to lack of comparable sales. Slaughter ewes sold steady. Demand and buyer attendance was moderate to good. Receipts included 57% slaughter ewes, 26% slaughter lambs and 17% feeder lambs.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 6 head, 121 lbs., 94.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3,118 to 128 lbs., 91.25 to 95.50 (93.64); 132 to 143 lbs., 90.50 to 93.25 (91.66).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 15 head, 153 to 158 lbs., 30.50 to 32.00 (31.71); 160 to 187 lbs., 27.50 to 31.00 (28.55). Good 3 to 4, 210 to 235 lbs., 14.50 to 21.00 (16.72). Utility 1 to 2, 139 to 152 lbs., 15.25 to 22.00 (17.14); 166 to 189 lbs., 18.00 to 22.00 (20.06). Cull 1, 110 to 149 lbs., 6.50 to 15.00 ( 8.83).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 44 to 49 lbs., 111.00 to 121.00 (116.60); 61 head, 61 lbs., 115.25 to 120.00 (117.66). Medium and large frame 2,9 head, 66 lbs., 98.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 11 head, 44 lbs., 114.00; 10 head, 53 to 58 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00 (109.58).
