Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 4,778 head, April 3, compared to 4,646 head, last week and 4,780 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, steers at 300 to 650 pounds were steady to firm, 650 to 750 pounds were $1 to $3 lower, 750 to 800 pounds were $1 higher, and 800 to 1000 pounds were steady. Heifers at 300 to 600 pounds were $1 to $6 lower, and 600 to 900 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $4 lower. Receipts included 78% 600 pounds and over, 18% 600 pounds and under, 4% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 60% steers and 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 60.00 to 61.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 51.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 50.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 63.00 to 66.50 (64.88); low dressing, 55.00 to 60.00 (56.50).
