North Arkansas livestock report

The North Arkansas Livestock Auction, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 756 head April 9, compared to 722 head last week and 839 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were steady. Feeder steers under 500 pounds were $4 to $6 lower, over 500 pounds were steady. Feeder heifers uneven were generally $1 to $5 lower, instances were $7 to $8 lower. The supply included about 397 feeder calves, 223 yearlings, 30 replacement or feeder cows, 93 slaughter cows, 12 slaughter bulls, 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply included about 36% over 600 lbs., 40% steers, 47% heifers, and 13% bulls. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.50 to 48.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 53.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 47.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 54.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 42.50 to 47.50; high dressing, 47.50 to 52.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 42.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 33.00 to 40.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 42.00; low dressing, 30.00 to 33.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 55.00 to 62.50; high dressing, 63.00 to 64.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second stage, 700.00 to 800.00 per head; first stage or open, 46.00 to 62.00; 8 to 10 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second to third stage, 600.00 to 700.00 per head; 10+ years old, second to third stage, 350.00 to 410.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 650.00 to 950.00 per pair; 10+ years old, with 100- to 300-lb. calves ,570.00 to 690.00 per pair.
