Iowa Cattlemen's Foundation awards $3,000 in scholarshipsIowa On April 5, the Iowa Cattlemen's Foundation held their Youth Beef Team scholarship competition at the Cattle Industry Headquarters in Ames. Five YBT members from across the state competed in this year's event and three $1,000 scholarships were awarded to YBT graduating seniors. The day-long competition was broken into two sessions during which participants were interviewed by a panel of judges and were asked to give presentations on issues of pertinence to the beef industry. This year's winners are: Amber Broulik, Linn County, daughter of Robert and Anna Broulik; Emily Thoms, Fayette County, daughter of Jeff and Sue Thoms; and Jennifer Tupper, Chickasaw County, daughter of Joanne and Larry Tupper. Finalists included Amanda Kropf of Graettinger and Jared Schramm of Moville. Judges for the contest were Will Frazee, beef producer from Emerson and current ICF Vice President; Dresden Petty-Wulf, a former YBT member from Hudson; and Ann Witt-Whitaker, a former YBT member from Ames. "As a beef producer, I am thrilled to be a part of this competition. These outstanding young people represent the future of the cattle industry and our support of them is critical to agriculture in Iowa," said Frazee. The Iowa Cattlemen's Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit entity that provides scholarship opportunities and educational programs for current and future cattle producers. Key areas of work include youth programs and environmental stewardship projects. The ICF sponsors the YBT scholarships and has awarded more than $41,000 in scholarships to date. The YBT is a Foundation sponsored program that trains and educates future beef industry advocates to positively promote Iowa's beef industry. Team members complete a training session provided by a beef industry staff member. The training equips them to conduct beef promotional activities in their own and surrounding communities.
