Ft. Smith livestock auction reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 961 head April 7, compared to 509 head last week and 563 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Feeder bulls were $4 higher. Feeder steers were uneven, calves under 400 pounds were $6 lower, calves over 600 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were $4 to $6 lower. The supply included 484 feeder calves, 303 feeder yearlings, 60 replacement cows, 104 slaughter cows, 10 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 54.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50; high dressing, 46.00 to 50.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 40.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 47.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 46.50.
