Wolf kills sheep in Garfield County

MILES CITY, Mont. (AP)--Federal wildlife officials confirmed a wolf killed one sheep and wounded another on private land northwest of Jordan in eastern Montana.

The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department authorized the removal of one wolf and the landowner will be given a shoot-on-sight permit, the agency said Aug. 22.

Officials verified the depredation Aug. 21.

A second attack, on 10 sheep, was investigated on a nearby ranch, but so much time had passed that wildlife officials were unable to determine if a wolf was responsible.
