Dodge City cattle sales report

Dodge City Winter Livestock Inc., Dodge City, Kan., reported receipts of 1,994 head Aug. 22, compared to 2,036 head last week, and 1,193 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers at 300 to 800 pounds and heifers at 300 to 600 pounds were not enough for a market test, although a steady undertone was noted. Steers at 800 to 950 pounds were $1 to $3 higher on a light test, and heifers at 600 to 800 pounds were firm on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to weak. Receipts included 82% over 600 pounds, 12% under 600 pounds and 6% slaughter cows and bulls with 85 head, early. The feeder supply included 33% steers and 67% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 55.00 to 58.50; individual 54.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 53.00 to 57.50; low dressing, 43.50 to 52.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 65.50 to 70.00, high dressing individual, 73.00; low dressing, 56.50 to 65.00.
