meyersberries06 FREEZE DAMAGE--This is all that remains of most of Marv Meyer's blueberry crop this year. An unusually warm March followed by an unusually cold April damaged his blueberry and blackberry crops. (Journal photo by Doug Rich.)
meyersberries08 BERRY CROP--Normally Marv Meyer has plants full of blueberries but freezing weather in April destroyed his crop. His phone has been ringing off the hook from his customers looking for the fresh, sweet produce but they will have to wait for next year. (Journal photo by Doug Rich.)
sandybinder03 or 06 APPLE CROP--Sandy Binder, owner of Binder's Apple and Berry Farm near Mexico, Mo., thins apples from a tree next to her orchard. It one of the few trees on her farm that survived the spring freeze. (Journal photo by Doug Rich.)
sandybiner02 NEXT YEAR--There won't very many apples on Sandy Binder's farm this year, but she said that could mean a bumper crop next year. The trees have had a year off and will make up for it next year. (Journal photo by Doug Rich.)
EXTRA INCOME--Although Sandy Binder will not have any apples for sale this year, she will get some extra income from her alpaca flock. She said this has been a very good year for alpaca sales. In addition to selling breeding stock, binder harvests the fiber that is made into hats, gloves, and blankets which she sells from her farm. (Journal photo by Doug Rich.)
