Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 15, totaled 9,300 head, compared to 21,825 head last week and 7,800 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle sold steady to $2 lower except 950- to 1000-pound steers were steady to $1 higher, and feeders under 600 pounds were not well tested at Wyoming auctions this week. Demand was good. Overall quality mostly average. Direct trade was moderate. Comparable sales were mostly steady. Demand is moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices were current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 69% of the supply, heifers 31%, with 89% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 5900 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2 290 lbs., 123.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 101.00 to 123.00; 610 to 685 lbs., 118.00 to 122.50; 710 to 780 lbs., 114.00 to 117.50; 1020 lbs., 104.00. Large frame 2, 615 lbs., 42.00; 700 to 785 lbs., 45.00 to 45.50. Medium and large frame 3, 680 lbs., 59.25; 815 to 840 lbs., 60.25 to 61.25. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 650 lbs., 120.00 October; 850 to 890 lbs., 112.00 to 115.00. Delivered price, 575 lbs., 127.00 November; 685 lbs., 128.00; 750 lbs., 121.80.
